چکیده

As the distance from an earthquake increases, percentage of people who do not feel it also increases. The average transition between “felt” and “not felt” reports is mainly determined by magnitude depth earthquake, but depends on observation floor building height. Buildings act as resonators can amplify shaking at specific frequencies. We analyzed over 286,000 crowdsourced to study effect height perception. found that, compared values, there increase in highest floors a decrease lowest buildings all heights. range within which observer likely (perception boundary) examined how varies with magnitude. that higher perceive medium high earthquakes progressively better than lower ones. perception boundary model seismic response spectra estimate vibration frequency perceived observers each floor/building combination. Our results show value fundamental period increases for top floor, modes become more evident 6 stories. In addition, we observed affects basement, tending Concerning macroseismic intensity estimation, tall buildings, observations made both upper must be considered outside normal range, changes function distance, pointing out importance collecting adequate number sample different locations observers.

Earthquake Resistant Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings

This paper briefly reviews the development of earthquake resistant design of buildings. The state-of-the-art of seismic design is discussed from the viewpoint of the performance criteria of buildings. These are (a) serviceability from frequent minor-intensity earthquake motions, (b) repairability from an infrequent but major-intensity earthquake motion, and (c) life safety from the maximum poss...

Architectural Glass for Earthquake - resistant Buildings

Significant differences exist in the performance of various architectural glass types subjected to simulated earthquake conditions. Controlled laboratory studies were conducted to investigate the cracking resistance and fallout resistance of different types of architectural glass installed in the same storefront and mid-rise wall systems. Quantitative data obtained from these studies are summar...

Criteria for Seismic Risk Reduction of Earthquake Resistant Buildings

Most of the existing seismic design codes are based on the empirical knowledge accumulated through systematic earthquake damage data collection and their analysis. Required levels of protection and seismic design forces gradually are increased after each series of catastrophic earthquakes particularly in developed countries. Many efforts have been made through experimental and analytical studie...
